We give thanks to you – our guests who help us further our mission of sustainability – as well as to our passionate 1 Team members. We also give thanks to nature. Amid family and football, it’s easy to forget that this holiday is about giving thanks for nature’s bounty. But nature provides so much more than sustenance. Livelihoods. Medicine. Adventure. Beauty. Even a solution to our broken climate.

Scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs around the world are exploring unique solutions to counter climate change. But is there one we’re missing that’s already here? Natural climate solutions like forests, grasslands, and wetlands take carbon out of the air and lock it away. They could provide up to 37% of our solution to stabilizing the climate by 2030 (source), yet they receive only 2% of all funding to combat climate change (source).

So what can we do?

1. Protect

In spite of our climate crisis, deforestation for commercial activity continues. By consuming less, avoiding single-use products, making sustainable food choices, and opting for recycled or responsibly produced paper/wood products (look for third-party certifications like the Forest Stewardship Council), we can protect our forests that are so vital for carbon capture.

2. Restore

Many of our ecosystems have been badly damaged. Nature is incredibly resilient, but we can give it a helping hand. Support organizations working to restore our essential ecosystems around the world, and help plant trees in your own community.

3. Fund

From what we buy to how we invest to whom we vote for, our decisions impact whether we’re funding things that help nature or harm it.
