1 Hotels Celebrates America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day is a nationwide initiative that inspires people across the country to make the most of their unused or discarded materials.

Waste has a significant negative impacting on our natural environment, as greenhouse gasses are released from landfill sites. Recycling effectively helps reduce the pollution caused by waste and decreases the need for raw materials so that rainforests can be preserved, ultimately providing us with a cleaner, more sustainable home. With America Recycles Day, our country’s goal towards creating an eco-friendly, more liveable Earth becomes more attainable.

We are very excited to participate in this initiative, as natural, recycled goods are present and effectively utilized in each hotel.

All hangers at 1 Hotels are made from recycled paper products sent to the hotel, such as shipping boxes and love letters. Rather than using plastic, at 1 Hotels, guests can hang their clothes on hangers that have taken on a new, sustainable life.

At 1 Hotelsin-room glassware is made of recycled wine bottles. Guests are also invited to use the triple filtered water purification system, reducing the use of plastic bottles for travelers during their stay. 1 Hotels makes it easy to care for the environment while you’re on vacation.

While recycling is an effective way to help Mother Earth, upcycling is another way to transform discarded materials into unexpected touches of beauty for your home. Here are a few ways that we suggest taking everyday objects and giving them a new life:

1. Make a Bamboo Scent Diffuser

Take bamboo sticks and put them in a bottle filled with essential oil, eucalyptus, rubbing alcohol, or whatever aromatic liquid you choose, to create a unique scent diffuser. Rather than throwing out the bottle once you’re done with it, use it to give your home a refreshing scent while adding a hint of natural beauty to any table.

2. Craft Cork and Succulent Planters By Hand

Upcycling makes it easy to add greenery to your living space. Hollow out corks and fill them with succulent plants to make small, cute planters – bringing the beauty of nature indoors.

 3. Hang Up a Wine Bottle Chandelier

Why throw out your bottles of Cabernet or Pinot Grigio when you can upcycle them? Finished wine bottles, or any kind of glass bottle for that matter, are the perfect materials to make a stunning, one-of-a-kind chandelier. Look at these bottles for what they could be rather than just for what they are, and make your own work of art at home.

These are just a few examples of how recycling and upcycling can help the Earth while adding beauty to your living space whether at 1 Hotels or in the comfort of your home.
