We love welcoming your furry friends across our sanctuaries, and what better time to make unforgettable memories with them than sweet summertime? With International Dog Day on August 26, it’s the perfect season to bring your pets along on your travel adventures.

To celebrate, we sat down for a bark-to-bark with Charlie (@puppynamedcharlie), an adventurous NYC pup who loves to explore the city, travel to new places, and play fetch whenever possible. Her big personality and curious spirit have led her to many corners of the world, making her the perfect pup to interview about four-legged travel and her favorite essentials.

Not to mention, Charlie was the first pup to try our new Dog Days of Summer menu at 1 Hotel Central Park, a special curation of locally sourced salmon, chicken, and ground beef savories and cooling treats such as pup cups, berries, and crispy cucumbers. We spoke with Charlie to fetch the details about her favorite menu items, the secret spots she frequents in NYC, and her future travel aspirations.

A Tail-Wagging Talk with Charlie

Hi Charlie, thanks for chatting with us! You were the first pup to try our new “Dog Days of Summer” menu at Jams at 1 Hotel Central Park. Tell us about the experience and what fellow pups can expect. What was your favorite item?

I'm honored to have been the very first pup to try your new "Dog Days of Summer" menu! The food exceeded my expectations, and let me tell you: I have a pretty distinguished palate. My favorite items were the chicken dish with sweet potatoes and the ice cream dessert. YUM and YUM.

You’re quite the experienced traveler. What are some of your favorite dog travel and road trip essentials?

Why thank you! I do love to travel, especially somewhere I can swim or run around on the beach, so I’ve gathered a few dog road trip essentials along the way. I am a very active girl, so I always have a dog water bottle with me to stay hydrated. Of course, I always travel with the best grooming products to keep my poof looking extra voluminous after my outdoor adventures. I use PRIDE+GROOM hair care products.

When you’re not on the road, where are your favorite pup hot spots or hidden gems in NYC?

I'm an Upper East Sider through and through. I start every morning either off leash in Central Park, or at Carl Schurz Park, which is a little hidden gem oasis right on the East River with not one but two dog parks! I have a whole morning crew who I walk and play fetch with. You can't sit with us. Ok ok, you can, but only if you bring a ball. As far as restaurants, I love when Mom brings me all around the city to dine with her. New York is wonderful in that way. Dogs aren't seen as pets that should be left at home. They are welcomed (and encouraged) at most restaurants with outdoor seating, so it makes being a dog in New York even more of a treat.

What’s one place you haven’t visited yet that’s at the top of your list and why?

I would love to visit Israel. It's been a dream of mine since I was a tiny puppy and my mom went there without me. Isn't that rude? I have lots of family and friends there and it would be the ultimate bucket list item for me to visit there. I hear they have the most dog-friendly beaches in Tel Aviv!
