Sustainability
What We Hold Ourselves To.
From a building designed and renovated to BREEAM Excellent and LEED Gold standards, to FSC-certified wood and OEKO-TEX certified linen and terry, thoughtful choices can be found throughout 1 Hotel Copenhagen.*
Some you'll notice during your stay, others happen quietly behind the scenes. From the materials and makers we work with, to the way we approach food, drink and waste, this is where you can discover more about the choices we've made.
Our Highlights
Second Life Bar Program: Turning spent ingredients into new culinary and cocktail creations.
Nature-Inspired Rooms: FSC-certified wood alongside reclaimed and repurposed wood, OEKO-TEX certified cotton linen and terry, recycled wine bottle glassware.
Thoughtful Materials, Less Plastic: From guestrooms and gathering spaces to our restaurants and bars, we look for thoughtful alternatives to avoidable single-use plastics. Across the property, that includes reusable, compostable and recyclable options for cups, bottles and straws, along with reusable key cards crafted from FSC-certified wood.
Housekeeping, Done Quietly: Thermostat setpoints, natural light, refillable amenities, and cleaning products chosen for reduced VOCs and biodegradable ingredients.
Our Green Promise
At 1 Hotel Copenhagen, nature, place and community shape the way we think about every stay. Our approach to sustainability is woven throughout the property, from how we use energy and water and manage waste, to the materials we choose, the way we source, and the local relationships we build. You’ll see it in thoughtful details throughout the hotel and in many of the choices happening behind the scenes. We bring together considered design, craftsmanship and more mindful ways of operating, always looking for opportunities to do things better.
Minimising Our Footprint
We track energy use and emissions monthly and work to reduce them through design choices aligned to BREEAM Excellent and LEED Gold standards and through day-to-day operations, including district heating, energy-efficient systems, and features such as triple-glazed insulating windows.*
Supporting Causes that Matter
Through our “Pay It Forward” initiative, we work with local nonprofits to support both community and environmental efforts in Copenhagen.
We work with JunkFood through volunteer activities such as shelter support and food redistribution and meal preparation.
We support Den Danske Naturfond, which works to protect Danish ecosystems, by contributing to the Lerbjerg Forest restoration project.
Our Pillars
Environment
Reusable, recyclable, and compostable alternatives have replaced single-use plastics in our guestrooms, gathering spaces, restaurants, and bars. We keep a close eye on water and energy, and everything from the linen on your bed to the fish on your plate comes from suppliers we know by name.
People & Equity
We uplift both guests and the community through inclusive wellness experiences, relationships with local makers and social enterprises, and work with nonprofit organizations across Copenhagen. From sound baths and dark sky hours to group runs and artisan spotlights, we hope these moments connect you more closely with the city, its people, and the natural world around it.
Prosperity
We embrace mindful growth by sourcing local and seasonal ingredients and supporting B Corp Certified wine suppliers and spirit brands such as Kjær & Sommerfeldt, Sigurd Müller, and Sprit & Co.

Good Energy is Clean Energy
Our sanctuary is designed and operated for energy efficiency, grounded in the standards of LEED Gold and BREEAM Excellent and brought to life through LED lighting, intelligent temperature controls and triple-glazed insulating windows. The building is heated through Copenhagen's district energy network, and our electricity is backed by guarantees of origin from 100% renewable Scandinavian hydropower.
Nature, On Property and Beyond
In 2025, 1 Hotel Copenhagen contributed to the Lerbjerg Forest restoration project in collaboration with Den Danske Naturfond, The Danish Nature Foundation, an independent nonprofit that works to protect and restore nature across Denmark. We continue to support the Foundation's work in 2026, alongside what grows here: our herb garden, our pollinator hotel, and our partnership with Bybi, who supply us with honey from hives just down the street in Copenhagen's Botanical Garden.
*Our BREEAM Excellent assessment was submitted as of October 2026 and is awaiting the assessor's decision. We will update this page when it is awarded.
