World Oceans Day screening: OCEAN with David Attenborough
Join us at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay for a special Cinema Under the Stars presentation of Ocean with David Attenborough — an inspiring cinematic journey into the beauty, wonder, and fragility of our blue planet.
The evening includes a special opportunity to hear from retired National Geographic marine biologist and current University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa researcher, Dr. Alan Friedlander. A contributor to the film and longtime explorer with National Geographic’s Pristine Seas expeditions, Dr. Friedlander has spent decades studying some of the world’s most untouched marine ecosystems. A dedicated steward of Hawai‘i’s oceans, he has also devoted the past 35 years to researching the rich marine environment of Hanalei Bay, bringing a deeply personal and local perspective to this unforgettable evening.
Dr. Friedlander will be joined by Makaʻala Kaʻaumoana, Executive Director of Hanalei Watershed Hui, and Presley Wann, Executive Director of Hui Makaʻāinana o Makana, for a pre-screening talk story exploring the state of our global oceans and the shoreline here at home in Hanalei. Beneath the stars and alongside our community, guests are invited to connect more deeply with the natural beauty that surrounds us — and the collective responsibility to protect it.
