Hold onto your hats, kids, we’ve got an announcement. Today, our new flagship, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, opens its doors at Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park and ushers in a new era of sustainable luxury.

Built from the ground up according to LEED standards, the hotel was designed using 54 percent regional and reclaimed materials, including original heart-pine beams from Brooklyn’s old Domino Sugar Factory, walnut from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and pine flooring from the Old Crow Distillery in Kentucky. In addition to a rainwater reclamation system that will irrigate the park in summer months, the hotel operates entirely on wind power and uses only low-energy lightbulbs. Rooms and common areas are decorated with environment-focused artwork, including the 25-foot green wall in the lobby, a sculpture made with materials salvaged after a tornado upstate, and, in corner suites, a watermark painted by local artist Olivié Ponce in honor of the flooding in the neighborhood during Hurricane Sandy.

Our goal is to bring nature inside in the most thoughtful ways, a goal best displayed by each room’s floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty. Even the tiny details match up: organic cotton Keetsa mattresses are wrapped in 100 percent organic cotton sheets, every faucet spouts Triple Clear filtered water, and rooms are adorned with living plants and trees by the landscape team at Harrison Green. And, should you need to get around town, we offer complimentary rides in our house car: a Tesla.

Sustainability doesn’t stop with overnight guests, though. In addition to our lobby farm stand, all three of of our eateries—Neighbors, the lobby lounge, and Signature Restaurant—use seasonal, fresh ingredients from local purveyors. In the warmer months, Neighbors café dining space will spill out onto the terrace in Brooklyn Bridge Park for waterfront dining. But the crowning glory will be our rooftop pool and bar, a 4,000-square-foot space made from reclaimed railroad ties, that opens in May to both guests and locals.

Don’t wait until the spring to come say hi, though. Our doors are open, the cocktails are flowing, we’re already planning our first Full Moon Parties, and community yoga programming. Oh, and, those panoramic views? Always awe-inspiring.
