One of the our favorite warm-weather activities that kicks off in May is biking. Fun fact: May is known as Bike Month. Whether you’ve been cycling for years or just recently hopped on a Citibike for the first time, we’ve rounded up a few of the best routes in NYC. Ocean Parkway Photo by: Seth Holladay Ocean Parkway, the five-mile route from near Prospect Park, all the way to Brighton Beach, was the first bike path built in the United States. Both historical and beautiful, the path is shaded by trees, and is an almost entirely flat ride, making it the perfect leisure route. Hudson River Greenway Photo by: Anthony Lanzilote The Hudson River Greenway is part of the Manhattan Waterfront Greenway, a 32-mile route that extends all the way around Manhattan. The best part? Incredible views, an almost entirely flat route, and a perfect river breeze. Pro-tip: Go for a morning weekday ride to avoid congestion. Governor’s Island Photo by: Trish Mayo Looking for a car-free route? Governor’s Island is your ticket. The path covers almost the entire perimeter of the island, so it’s perfect for those looking for an adventure. Plus, if you cycle during spring and summer months, you’ll discover a bunch of art and cultural events worth stopping for. Single and tandem bikes are available for rent, or you can bring your own on the bike-friendly ferry.
